Both are the leaders of the team and form the best backcourt in the state. Victory Christian takes first place with a win over Heritage by George McPherson 2/8/2010 - Victory Christian defeated Heritage Christian to take first place with their 15th win in a row. Coach Linzy Davis says he is molding his young players into future high caliber D-1 prospects led by a trio freshman Drew Davis (#3),sophomore Michael Stephenson (#11) and 6'9 Soph Sunny Odogwu (out with a broken foot).
"Mike Stephenson, is the next Jalen Rose (former NBA player and part of the University of Michigan Fab 5)," says coach Davis. "I'm teaching Michael and Drew how to become triple-double players." said Davis. "There is an art and science to getting there and both are working hard to balance out their game. Michael's game is tailor-made for the way I coach. He can get 30 points with ease. I want him to be recognized as a great defender and rebounder. He brings a lot to the table. He will be one of the most highly recruited guards in America because he will learn how ot do a not of things that other guards simply don't work on." Drew Davis is a Mark Jackson type-point-guard with Reggie Miller range and shooting talent. "Drew is what I call a Box Jellyfish." said coach Davis. "He looks harmless but is very deadly to those who come in contact with him. Drew does more for a team in a half than most players accomplish in an entire game. A college coach pointed out to me that he noticed in a video highlight that Drew scored 14 points and six assist, and that was just one half of basketball. You don't know how deadly his sting is until the game is over. He will be flat-out scary his senior year. He is already being highly recruited by big D-1 schools." Sunny Odogwu is an inside muscle machine, and juniors Robert Pearson and 6'7 Dante Slade are becoming college prospects. And 6'3 Freshman Chris Watts is a future D-1 prospect. Vahko K is the only senior and has several small colleges that have expressed interest. Victory Christian, first year coach Linzy Davis has turned Victory into an ELITE program with a 15 - 1 record including 15 wins in a row. Victory got revenge by stomping Heritage 84 - 42. Victory loss their first game of the season to Heritage 62 - 50, but Robert Pearson was the only player that faced that team. Victory Christian is the number one seed going into the state tournament and coach Davis said his team hasn't peaked yet. "We are still improving. We are about 15% of what I expect us to be in three years. We have a lot to work on. But I must say, we are on course. And I also know we will attract elite talent to make us a top 5 school in the USA next year. We plan to be #1 in the USA."
